The line of dialogue about Kono could've been lampshading -- maybe it was, but now that we're further along it looks like they're doing what I hoped/expected with her, how she's growing as a rookie. Her badassness is progressive. I think they know exactly what they're doing with Kono and it wasn't lampshading -- it was Kono raising her flag to remind them she's serious about this job and wants to do more than be relegated to babysitter/rookie duties.
Ahh, what happened to my fannish life? We still need to talk about Chin! I love that he's sort of quiet and serious but then he makes fun of the others when the occasion arises and even though Steve is the boss, technically, Chin is really the big brother, the one who I think may have the most years of experience as a detective (unless Danny is because he was continuously a detective for longer?) and he's so...detective-ish. And I love how he mentors Kono, he respects her and is so proud of her but he also is protective and guides her. Also, Chin, hotass on a motorcycle and such a badass, he radiates badass just standing there. Like if the team is stuck in a firefight, Chin just being there already makes me less scared that they'll get killed (aside from the obvious that they won't get killed because then the show will have no characters).
