Dear Yuletide Author
Dear Yuletide Author,
Gosh, I love Yuletide. Don't you love Yuletide? All these people giving all these gifts to other people giving gifts, and everyone wins with more fic. It's just the best. :)
I am so excited that you are interested in writing for a fandom and characters that I love! If you have reached the panicky oh-god-what-have-I-signed-up-for stage of affairs, NEVER FEAR. I will be thrilled to have fic in any of these fandoms, so write whatever your heart desires.
If you care for more details than "follow your muse", I will blather further about myself under the cut, in hopes that you find something of use:
I generally prefer a more cheerful tone and happy endings for Yuletide. That said, I once got a totally creepy horror story as a present one year and was delighted (once I managed to sleep again...), so, perhaps that's not a helpful guideline?
Specific Dislikes:
- character bashing
- major character death
- incest
- public humiliation
Specific Likes:
- wacky shenanigans
- con artistry and heists
- banter and clever dialogue
- competence! I have such a competence kink.
- friendship/partnership; friends/partners slowly growing into something more
- strength in adversity
- hurt/comfort
- pining
- respect and admiration in romances
- epistolary fic
- worldbuilding
- AUs and crossovers (caveat: if you do decide on a crossover, please keep to the Yuletide spirit and choose a small fandom. I love Marvel and SPN and Teen Wolf as much as the next girl, but they get plenty of attention year-round.)
The Pelican Brief
Characters: Gray Grantham, Darby Shaw
If no one else got to the end of this movie and thought Man, I could really go for some Gray/Darby action, I will be super disappointed. So, The Pelican Brief is one of those movies I grew up seeing a million times, because there was pretty much a John Grisham movie adaptation on re-runs every five seconds when flicking through channels. I've always really loved the warm dynamic that Gray and Darby develop through all the instances of people trying to kill them. And while the end of the movie is how it needed to end, it's kind of a massive tease, and I would really like you to at least get them in the same room again. Maybe they stealthily write to each other with complicated covert spy-type tactics. Maybe the press finds Darby in hiding. Maybe Gray tracks her down and shows up on her beach one day, Shawshank Redemption-style. Who knows! Have fun. :)
Grease 2
Characters: Stephanie Zinone, Michael Carrington
Okay, there are like, only six fics in existence that address my huge fondness for the Michael/Stephanie pairing. WHY. He's like the perfect mix of bad boy who rides a motorcycle AND the nerd who pines over that awesome girl he goes to school with! And Stephanie is the blue collar girl from the wrong side of the tracks who somehow managed to be leader of the Pink Ladies! I would read a million stories about these two.Wow, they really managed to crowbar all the tropes into this movie, didn't they? And I love it. I really don't have any specific ideas for this one, just a general desire to read more about the two of them.
Jurassic Park (Movies)
Characters: Alexis "Lex" Murphy, Tim Murphy
I have just really craved grown-up Tim & Lex adventures ever since reading this fic from Yuletide 2011. Feel free to bring in other characters from the movie(s)! But mostly I want two kids who survived almost being eaten by fucking dinosaurs trying to be adults, because really.Right, so I just realized that Jurassic Park and The Pelican Brief were both made in 1993. So...basically see above? Only with this movie, I would really like to see what they're like as adult siblings. I personally love my sisters a lot, and am also friends with them, like I imagine Lex & Tim would be. However, having survived an island full of dinosaurs trying to kill you might make an interesting twist in a relationship. :) Have them sit around drinking wine and making fun of terrible monster movies, or hacking the Pentagon, or hosting a "We Didn't Let The Dinosaurs Eat Us!" reunion dinner party. Whatever you like! I would like to see them adulting. (That's totally a verb.)
I hope any of this helps! (And that the excess of exclamation marks isn't too excessive.) If you would like to ask any questions, my twin sister
