Word nerds for charity!

I've been playing with vocabulary words over at the FreeRice website. They donate 10 grains of rice for every word you get right, isn't that cool? Apparently (according to my Google-fu), 1000 grains of rice = 1 cup, for what it's worth. I've just been keeping it open in a tab and coming back to it every so often. Who ever knew my SAT-honed vocab multiple-choice bullshitting skills could benefit charity some day? :D Go forth, my fellow vocab nerds, and feed people with your brains.

Anyway, it's making me imagine versions of stereotypical scenes using the most outrageous synonyms possible. Like "They osculated under the lunar effulgence...", etc.

And now I'm picturing Alison Janney's character from Ten Things I Hate About You. Good times.

Free the rice!

I love the Free Rice site! A lovely new educational philanthropic procrastination device! *does a lil' jig*

620 grains... not long 'til I've donated a handful! But it will have to wait :( Essays call...

Woop woop! 1000 grains! Level 45 (but mostly through fluke!) Oo this is fun. Some of the best have been 'chanticleer' (thank you Chaucer), 'pulchritude' (my regards to Richardson, possibly) and 'bellicose' (no idea where I picked up that one).

Isn't it fun? I've totally replaced Solitaire/Minesweeper/etc. with FreeRice. It's awesome. My count just cleared 12,000, plus whatever I earned before I realized you could have it remember your settings. :) Such a great idea, seriously.
