a little nonsense now and then

From [livejournal.com profile] slodwick and [livejournal.com profile] dsudis, the "Be Pete Wentz" Poetry Meme (lol):

1. Put your music player of choice on shuffle.
2. The first lines of twenty songs = a poem; the first line of the twenty-first song is the title.

For bonus points, see how many sources you recognize!

I Don't Wanna Be No Man's Woman

I have a little red rooster too lazy to crow for day
With a purple umbrella and a fifty-cent hat
Mangoes, papaya, chestnuts from the fire in my house of straw
I built a time machine

There's a nail in the door and there's glass on the lawn
Tell me that you've got everything you want

You say you want a revolution
When the cold of winter comes
Your heartbeat is pulsing at night in your chest
The treasure of love is easy to find

There goes Elvis kicking up a landslide
Alcohol, my permanent accessory
Threw you the obvious
It seems we're here; I miss you something rotten

Oh, sweet papa low down
I feel you, your sun it shines
Nobody can tell you there's only one song worth singing
How many roads must a man walk down before you call him a man?

Pride can stand a thousand trials
Blue gardenia, now I'm alone with you.

On A Dark Desert Highway

When I was born, they looked at me and said
Half of what I say is meaningless
Darling, you look dashing
I heard a word from on high

Could you let down your hair
To the ends of the earth
Sunday, Sunday, here again
Hit the pavement and drive for the first time in a long time

I got a letter this morning
They told him don't you ever come around here
I want to tell you
Every day I miss the you I used to know

I only speak the truth
If you got leavin' on your mind, tell me now
Before we go any further
May be silly for me to feel this way

I drink good coffee every morning
Lately when I'm in my room, all by myself
Oh, please, don't you rock my boat
I'm running down the road trying to loosen my load.

So many of those lyrics are really really easy to guess. I think my favorite bit is the first part of the first one, because it sounds like it was written on a lot of incredibly strong drugs. :)
