OMG YAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was spinning around on my chair and clapping my hands, that's how happy I am.
Katie hadn't seen "The Waters of Mars" yet, and I hadn't seen "The End of Time." So we sat down and watched TWoM, both parts of TEoT, and then "The Eleventh Hour," which means we were crying and heart-clenching for three hours, and then GIGGLING AND GLEEFUL for the next hour.
♥ ELEVEN! ♥
...I kinda love him. He's the Doctor! But new! Everything is new: the TARDIS, the sonic screwdriver, the Companion, and the Doctor himself. Which means that everything gets a fresh start, and we really kinda needed one, because it was starting to get to the point where I was sobbing my eyes out at every episode, and while I love that this show can get to me on such a visceral level, it's not terribly fun to sob your eyes out, now, is it? And the new Doctor is adorable! I love that he's kinda gawky and a little faily and okay with fumbling around trying to figure stuff out. There were moments when he just seemed so young, but that was okay, because young and new are very similar starting points. So YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY!
Sorry, this is the first time I've had a regeneration that wasn't omgsotraumatic – at the end of S1, I didn't know Christopher Eccleston's Doctor was only signed on for a year, and had never heard of Doctor Who before I watched the entirety of S1 in a couple of days, so when Nine just up and POOF! turned into Ten, I was devastated. I wasn't ready, I didn't get to say goodbye, and then he was just gone. I was heartbroken. Which I know sounds ridiculous, since it was over a fictional character who didn't even really die, but I was.
This time, though, I got plenty of warning both in RL and on the show itself. We even literally got a sequence where everyone said goodbye! So I was prepared – ready, even, for a new Doctor (gotta give credit to David Tennant for knowing when the moment had come to pass the torch).
And it's not all just the fact that he's really really adorable, maybe even more "aww, puppy!"-inducing than Ten was. That moment in the kitchen, when he's sitting eating fish sticks and custard with Amelia and suddenly did that thing the Doctor does, where he's being silly and weird and then says something like, That must be one scary crack, and a chill goes up your spine. When he said that, Katie (sitting right next to me) said "There he is." I couldn't agree more. Bravo, Matt Smith. Welcome to the party!
(The only reservations I have are that I'm not sure how I feel about the sonic screwdriver being green, or about the new credit sequence. I did like the "DW" revolving into the TARDIS, but, well. I suppose I felt the same when the theme changed between S1 and S2 (or was it 2 and 3?). And honestly, if those are the only reservations I have? That's a really fucking good track record. Okay, there is one more thing: I wish they hadn't done the Random Obscure Prophecy Thing, again, in the very first episode back. Couldn't they have at least waited a bit? Sheesh.)
I have one question for the more informed Who-fans out there: has the Doctor ever met Sherlock Holmes? I know he's a fictional character, but that's never stopped the Doctor before. It would be awesome, wouldn't it?
