Dear Yuletide Writer
Oct. 9th, 2016 02:33 pmIf you need something to tide you over in case I am slow to produce the goods, though, I can recommend checking out my Yuletide tag in the meantime.
Dear Yuletide Author,
I am so excited that you are interested in writing for a fandom and character(s) that I love! If you have reached the panicky oh-god-what-have-I-signed-up-for stage of affairs, NEVER FEAR. I will be thrilled to have fic in any of these fandoms, so write whatever your heart desires.
If you care for more guiding details, I will discuss further under the cut:
( optional details, which are optional )

Oct. 25th, 2014 11:49 pmDear Yuletide Author,
Gosh, I love Yuletide. Don't you love Yuletide? All these people giving all these gifts to other people giving gifts, and everyone wins with more fic. It's just the best. :)
I am so excited that you are interested in writing for a fandom and characters that I love! If you have reached the panicky oh-god-what-have-I-signed-up-for stage of affairs, NEVER FEAR. I will be thrilled to have fic in any of these fandoms, so write whatever your heart desires.
If you care for more details than "follow your muse", I will blather further about myself under the cut, in hopes that you find something of use:
( blather herein )
Three more positive things:
1. I have triumphed over my TV! Specifically, I have fixed the problem where old TV shows (i.e., 4:3) streaming on Netflix turned all my favorite characters into slightly squashed versions of themselves. It was an embarrassingly easy fix (not, as you would think, a matter of changing the TV aspect ratio, but changing the settings on my BluRay, duh), but still -- victory is mine! :)
2. Another free Fossil bag hand-me-down from my aunt. (This is the third one; I'm starting to wonder if she's doing it on purpose.) It is a very pretty green tote-ish shaped bag, and I really like it.
3. After realizing that the "first episode" of Lewis that is available everywhere is not, in fact, the first episode, I spent several hours yesterday trying to obtain the actual pilot. I tried everywhere -- I was totally willing to give ITV a fair sum of money to view it, but it could not be found for love or money, unless I wanted to commit fraud and also obtain a valid British billing address, or unless I wanted to buy a DVD boxset for $50. But then I found a link!...and it was expired. So I sent a plea out into the void, and I just got notified that the links have been updated! Thank you, generous internet stranger. ♥! I am passing the time until K gets home to watch with me by watching that other show about a grumpy Oxford copper -- since I can now watch Inspector Morse without being driven mad by the messed-up aspect ratio (see #1).

Sep. 7th, 2014 03:34 pmFour months after my last post....
spatz tagged me for this meme: The rules: during the next five days, post three positive things about your day and ask three people to do the same so the positive attitude can gain some ground.
I had a semi-wretched week, so it was really hard to come up with things that didn't run along the lines of "Well, this good thing happened, but it started as/ended up being a bad thing that was super stressful..." so I have delayed until today.
1) The new girl at work started last Tuesday; not only does this lessen my workload, but during the course of the week, I have discovered that she's a fellow nerd: she loves Welcome to Night Vale, the Avengers, Minecraft, Tolkein, and endearingly, M*A*S*H. She can also hold a decent conversation and is apparently super excited about going to see Singin' In The Rain next weekend. I have very high hopes. :)
2) Twin has lured me into Tumblr fandom finally. It was not the shiny that did me in, but rather Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries discussion about Jack Robinson and his many issues (which you can read here). I find it hilariously appropriate, for some reason, that my Tumblr experience began with 700 words of meta. Anyway! Let me know you who are so we can be friends! I am inmyriadbits over there as well.
3) I taught myself how to make gifsets! (See item #2) Click here for Baby's First Gifset, which is of course of Phryne and Jack from Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries solving crime while flirting ridiculously and generally being unbearably adorable, as they constantly do.

May. 17th, 2014 02:40 pmAnyone who feels like it should post their ten most CRUCIAL CRUCIAL CRUCIAL-ASS movies, like the movies that explain everything about yourselves in your current incarnations (not necessarily your ten favorite movies but the ten movies that you, as a person existing currently, feel would help people get to know you) (they can change later on obviously).
I kind of took this to mean films that were formative/watched a million times as a kid, or films that I currently can watch a million times and never get sick of.
1) Amélie
Just, ♥. All the ♥s
2) Casablanca
I find it physically impossible to hear someone say "but soon" and not add "...and for the rest of your life", because this movie has warped me. Also, Claude Rains is the best; he steals every scene he's in from Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. That's awesome. Most-quoted movie ever, and for a damn good reason.
3) Singin' In The Rain
This movie just makes me super happy. My discovery of OT3 fanfic just makes it better. :D
4) The Philadelphia Story
BANTER. And Katharine Hepburn, Jimmy Stewart, and Cary Grant.
5) The Fugitive
I feel like this was always on TV when I was a kid. Innocent-man-falsely-accused trope, what what
6) GoldenEye
Shut up, Pierce Brosnan was my Bond growing up. I love the Craig films, but this is a great movie. Also always on TV growing up.
7) Die Hard
John McClane, y'all. This is my Christmas movie.
8) Shipwrecked
We used to have this one an old VHS tape with the commercials edited out; the tape perished after many many viewings. Just last year, I was delighted to discover it was on Amazon Instant for rental. It's actually held up pretty well, and my favorite character is still the girl stowaway who teaches the main character to read.
9) Brick
I fucking love this movie and everything it chooses to be, from the sound editing to Joseph Gordon Levitt's face to the script. Everything.
10) Star Wars
I'm counting the whole trilogy as one, shut up. We still have a VHS boxset of the ORIGINAL films, which I will never ever ever give up even though we no longer have a VCR until I can buy the unadulterated originals on disc. Which will probably not happen for years, but at least now there's a new hope thanks to Disney. I think I need to find a VCR now....

Fandom: Mission: Impossible (inclusive of all four movies and the TV show, but mostly the MI4 team)
Rating: PG
Pairing/Characters: Ethan Hunt/William Brandt, Jane, Benji, cameos from all over the canon
Word Count: 28394 (whaaaat)
Summary:
After their meeting on the pier in Seattle, the team goes their separate ways. But Ghost Protocol left the IMF in turmoil, so Will, Ethan, Jane, and Benji team up to take on the Syndicate, a mysterious and widespread criminal organization. Will has to adjust to being a field agent again, and learn how to work with his team when the world isn’t on the line -- all while dealing with attack cheetahs, unexpected amnesia, train robbery, master thieves, and more.
Falling in love was not part of his scenario.

ignipes for her wonderful beta, and to
doitninetimes for all the cheerleading! I would also like to thank
spatz for being fun to co-write spy shenanigans with, but especially for not strangling me in my sleep over the hyphens argument. ♥
And thanks to Tarlanx for the awesome big bang art! She made us not one but two different pieces, available as cover art and wallpapers; I especially love the photo manip, in which she managed to make use of a set photo from MI:4 that I adore. You can find them all here.

amplificathon! um...2013
Feb. 25th, 2014 05:34 pmSo...I never got around to actually crossposting about the Amplificathon 2013 podfics I did. *is super belated* I figured I should probably get on that before Amplificathon 2014 rolled around.
I joined up a week before the deadline, and I'd never recorded anything before, so I started with my own stories and a couple of Katie's. When I inevitably fumble my way through the early part of a learning curve, I prefer it be my own stuff (or my clone's) that bears the brunt of it. Anyway:

I LOVE YULETIDE.
My story has gone over well with my recipient, and the treat I wrote also went over well, so I'm happy as a clam in that regard.
I received an awesome, AWESOME gift. I'd asked for In Treatment, and hardly expected to match on it, because there were only three fics on the archive for it before this one, and one of those was a crossover, and I'd requested a character that didn't even have a tag before I asked for her. But no! I got it!
I've wanted good post-S1 Sophie-centric fic for ages, because damn if that girl wasn't fantastic, and this sticks her in college and watches her roll. It is -- as will surprise no one who watched this show -- heartbreaking and frequently very difficult to experience, but so warm with empathy for Sophie, in all her arrogant, sharp-edged, vulnerable, ballsy glory, and gives her not a happy ending but an beginning where she finds happiness but earns it. God, I love Sophie, and this author just nailed her, and I am so amazingly happy with the story:
Ten Point Oh (3885 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: In Treatment
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Sophie (In Treatment)
Additional Tags: Eating Disorders, Suicidal Thoughts, Past Sexual Abuse
Summary: Sophie has her answer all prepared: it is a total smug asshole answer, full of phrases like the joy of the sport. But no-one ever asks.
(**Definitely heed the tags and warnings in the note! Especially if you share any issues with the character. Like I said -- difficult.)
I haven't read a ton of other fic, but I've definitely been enjoying all the wacky creativity that comes out of this challenge. I mean, I love that there's now piles of fic to read for Arrow and SHIELD and so on, but it just isn't Yuletide unless people are pulling off:
1. Ryan Stone from Gravity picking up hitchhikers who happen to be awesome ladies from other fandoms while coping after her ordeal in the movie;
or
2. making a high fantasy femslash story with assassins out of "Jolene" (the Dolly Parton song);
or
3. my personal favorite so far -- the medieval ballad version of how Han and Gisele get together in Fast Five. I felt obligated to read it out loud for proper effect, and it had my sister and I in delighted stitches.

Have I mentioned that
spatz and I signed up for
smallfandombang? We decided to commit to finishing off our Mission: Impossible monster. So it's kind of hilarious, because we're just shy of 15,000 words and it's not even the first check-in yet, and five months until final draft.
There are at least seven more largish scenes/sequences to write, so it's going to be looong. It sort of resembles MFU more than M:I in tone, but I'm okay with that, because M:I4 was also a little more MFU than M:I.
Apparently I'm really in the mood to write spy shenanigans, because I just finished Dungeons & Hawkeyes and have been poking at an old MFU draft (which, hilariously, ALSO starts in a dungeon; that was not intentional), and we've got wacky shit going on in the M:I story (SO many tropes. SO, SO MANY).

I have never read an entertainment news article that made me laugh this much:
Charlie Hunnam pulls out of Fifty Shades Of Grey, leaving it begging to be filled
I thought it was worth clicking through just for the title, but the entire article is just gold.
Also -- thank god, because I really loved Charlie Hunnam in Pacific Rim(oh shit after reading that article now I want to make a horrible joke) and I didn't want him to become That Guy.

Dear Yuletide Author
Oct. 14th, 2013 07:15 amHello, wonderful mystery author! I am really excited to see what you write for the exchange -- I absolutely adore Yuletide, and I think it's so wonderful to give gifts of stories.
So, you're probably here to find out what I like. I'm pretty easy -- if you're excited about it, I'll be excited about it. Seriously, if you have a story you're tremendously excited to write and something in here clashes, don't worry about it! If you're invested, odds are I will love it.
I have no aversion to any mode -- gen, het, slash, polyamory, whatever. I tend toward happy endings and a lighter tone, especially for Yuletide, since I'm generally in a cheerful mood at the holidays. But then again, my Yuletide present two years ago was scary enough that I had trouble going to sleep after reading it, and I was delighted, so...basically I'm pretty easy.
( more optional details (which are optional) )
Oops. I just realized I forgot to cross-post this here! I was basically falling asleep as I posted AO3, though, if that's any excuse.
Fandom: Hawkeye (comics), Marvel Cinematic Universe-ish
Rating: G
Pairing/Characters: Kate Bishop, Clint Barton, Phil Coulson; Clint/Coulson-ish, but largely ampersand-fic
Word Count: 5519
Summary: In which this whole dungeon thing really isn’t working for Kate Bishop, there are far too many nicknames from the Victorian era, socks are vitally important, and Clint insists he is Han Solo in this situation.
Notes: This was written using only canon through Hawkeye #7, so apologies if anything clashes horribly for you. I am also ignoring all of Secret Avengers. So it’s basically Hawkeye, plus some MCU, plus whatever random Marvel trivia I’ve absorbed by osmosis over the years. *jazzhands* A million thanks to my beta extraordinaire,

DONE. (for now)
Sep. 15th, 2013 11:11 pmI would just like to say, my dear darling twin has finished two 11,000 word stories in the past three weeks, and I beta'd both of them. Since I'm the kind of beta who fights passionately over comma placement, obsessively re-reads what's already written, and relentlessly comes up with creative bribes for more writing to happen, it's been pretty exhausting.
Still, it's totally great! Because I've been watching her write them for months and getting to read bits and bobs and now they're ON THE INTERNET, FOR REALS. BEING AWESOME.
Also, because it means there's now a legit Regency AU for Person of Interest. Every fandom needs a Regency AU to be truly complete. :D
Even though no one was set upon by footpads. (Yet.)

Sep. 11th, 2013 09:12 amA scene from the bus this morning:
ME: *finally starting Naomi Novik's Blood of Tyrants and very excited about amnesiac Laurence*
OLD GUY: *gets on bus, sits next to me*
ME: *reads page two*
OLD GUY: *suddenly* Is that a book about Jesus Christ?
ME: Uh...no. It's a book about dragons. And the Napoleonic Wars.
OLD GUY: What?
ME: Dragons.
OLD GUY: Oh.
*awkward silence*
Just...what.

Aug. 31st, 2013 06:37 pmYou know how sometimes, when you get all over-invested in a TV show or whatever...and then you find out that the fledgling fandom is sadly lacking?
But occasionally, an author you like and trust starts writing in that fandom, and it's awesome.
Anyway, that just happened to me:
Strategy (9147 words) by LJC
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Arrow (TV 2012)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Oliver Queen/Felicity Smoak, Oliver Queen & Felicity Smoak, John Diggle & Oliver Queen
Characters: Felicity Smoak, Oliver Queen, John Diggle
Additional Tags: Five Plus One, all the kissing tropes ever in the history of ever
Summary:
BTW, if you have no idea what Arrow is, it's...well, not good in the way something like The West Wing is good, but it's totally great nonetheless. I was super dubious when my sister talked me into it, but it turned out to be really fun. This is the first time I've ever really liked Green Arrow; Stephen Amell sorta did for Oliver Queen what Mark Ruffalo did for Bruce Banner, for me. The plots are excellently ridiculous in the way only comic-based fare can be, and John Barrowman gets to play a villain. Then you have Felicity, who (like Illya Kuryakin before her) was originally intended as a blonde bit part, only was too awesome to contain (also like Illya), and shot from "five minutes of IT girl" to "second season regular." Basically, the Felicity-Oliver-Diggle show is what I'm watching, and that is made of win.
Also, there's a reason you get a lot of hits when you google "arrow shirtless". (I was going to link to tumblr, but apparently they're shunning non-members now? just google it.) I would like to thank Stephen Amell for making all our lives a better place through the careful application of gleaming abs. And shoulders. And leather pants.

And leather pants.
life is good
Aug. 29th, 2013 10:52 pmHas it really been almost four months since I last posted? Yikes.
Okay, ThePrincess Bride Life of Lindsey, The Good Parts Version:
1. Acquired new (non-permanent, i.e. for five months) job in January; left the food service industry behind for good.
2. Discovered the joys of an 8-to-5 lifestyle, complete with weekends, nights off, paid vacation time, health insurance, and bus commuting.
3. Got to experience the Wendy Davis filibuster from the inside.
4. Despaired of my state's politicians.
5. Job which was expected to last through May extended through June, and then through August.
6. Started practicing yoga on a regular basis. Have now become that person who goes as often as possible and talks about how great it is to anyone who will listen.
7. Found a psychiatrist, started taking sertraline (aka Zoloft) for "generalized anxiety disorder" and "major depressive affective disorder, recurrent episode, in partial or unspecified remission" (whoo, official diagnoses), and acquired a therapist. Discovered that it's a lot easier to wake up at 6am now, among other things.
8. Job which was originally expected to end three months earlier instead offers me a permanent position, a promotion, a raise, and minions. My granny is possibly even more delighted than I am.
9. Shopping spree ensues. (I have these boots and no regrets. They make me feel like a Star Trek reboot crew member.)
10. Planning for double half-birthday party with my twin sister which looms large next weekend.
That covers the big stuff, I guess. Today, I wrote 1000 words on the epic Ethan/Brandt MI4 fic that Katie and I have already written almost 15,000 words on but has been languishing away in google docs. I'm recovering from my first SRS BZNS yoga class, because I reached a point of fitness where I feel comfortable leveling up like that, and I was poking/helping Katie until she got traction on her POI Regency AU a little while ago. And I have tomorrow off (four-day weekend!), so I think I'm going to eat another fudgesicle and stay up late writing spy shenanigans.
