This is a placeholder post. But it shall not languish as a placeholder for long, I promise!
If you need something to tide you over in case I am slow to produce the goods, though, I can recommend checking out my Yuletide tag in the meantime.
Sigh, I'M SO SORRY. Better late than never?

Dear Yuletide Author,

I am so excited that you are interested in writing for a fandom and character(s) that I love! If you have reached the panicky oh-god-what-have-I-signed-up-for stage of affairs, NEVER FEAR. I will be thrilled to have fic in any of these fandoms, so write whatever your heart desires.

If you care for more guiding details, I will discuss further under the cut:

In general, I prefer a more cheerful tone and a happy ending for Yuletide. That said, I got a totally creepy horror story one year and it was delightful (once I managed to sleep again...), so, you know, not a deal-breaker.

Specific Dislikes:
- character bashing
- major character death
- incest
- public humiliation
- infidelity, affairs, and lying in connection with either of those
- amputation/loss of a body part; no qualms with amputee characters, but the event itself is incredibly distressing for me to read

Specific Likes:
- wacky shenanigans
- con artistry and heists
- banter and clever dialogue
- competence! I have such a competence kink, it's not even funny.
- friendship/partnership; friends/partners slowly building into something more
- strength in adversity
- hurt/comfort
- pining
- respect and admiration in romance
- epistolary fic
- worldbuilding
- AUs and crossovers (caveat: if you do decide to rock a crossover, please keep to the Yuletide spirit and choose another small fandom! I love Marvel and Supernatural as much as the next fangirl, but they get plenty of attention year-round.)

On to the requests!

Healer
Characters: Chae Youngshin, Seo Junghoo, Jo Minja

Gosh, I loved this K-drama so fucking much. Competence! Investigative reporting! Spy/con artist-like shenanigans! Pining! Secret identities! Family! Romance! Everything is greatness. Anyway, these three were my favorite characters -- I love Youngshin, who grows into her confidence and her career and rocks it, defiant in the face of powerful bullies and her own trauma; I love Junghoo, who is so wretchedly lonely and misanthropic at the start of the show, learning to make (and re-make) connections and finding a cause to throw his skills behind; and I love Minja, my darling quirky middle-aged former-cop hacker, and her grumpy friendship with Junghoo. Feel free to write something cute and domestic that I can coo over (like them all sitting down for dinner or w/e), or action it up with daring investigative adventures.

Edge of Tomorrow
Characters: Rita Vrataski, William Cage

I super ship these two, even though they face the tricky issue of all their past encounters existing only in Cage's memories. Rita is so fierce and incisive, and I loved watching her take-no-shit-or-prisoners her way through the film. I'd love to see Rita get to know him outside of life-or-death situations, and god knows that woman deserves some downtime, and maybe some celebration of their victory over the Mimics. And Cage really went through a fascinating development through the movie -- from coward to stone-cold badass -- and I think a Rita-POV on him as he is now vs. the way people who used to know him interact with him would be interesting.

Snakes on a Plane
Characters: Neville Flynn, Claire Miller

Ah, this delightfully ridiculous movie. I reached the end and was like, well hello the two most competent characters, you're both rather attractive and I would like to see more of you flirting at each other! And then went to the internet and realized that literally no one else had had the same idea, and was sad. That's...pretty much the entire motivation behind this request. More of these two! Flirting with each other (if you like)! Getting a well-deserved drink and shower (not necessarily in that order ;D)! IDK, have fun!

Gaslight
Characters: Paula Alquist, Brian Cameron

I would dearly love a post-movie, Paula-centric story. I love the strength we see in her during the attic scene, when she stands up to the man who has literally been driving her mad, and is so beautifully angry and brave. After her horrible experiences during the film, I would love to see coming into her own, and learning to trust in her own sanity and opinions again. I'd also like to see Brian Cameron again -- his respect for Paula in the midst of all the doubt was really lovely, and his history with her aunt is such a great story. But mostly, I want Paula -- singing and venturing out into London and reconnecting with her friends and healing. I would love for you to retain Brian's respect for Paula's choices and agency, and I would be interested to see you develop them into something real (friendship or relationship, whichever you prefer). Maybe you could give him some characterization that would endear Paula to him (beyond just the savior complex; it could be fun to give him some competing suitors for contrast, so it's not just an "he got there first when she was vulnerable" sort of situation). Let's see, what else...I love the period setting! YAY Victorian London! The movie itself is so necessarily claustrophobic, but I would love to see Paula's world expand outward, and there are so many fun period details you could play with. The movie hints at a network of acquaintances and friends that Paula's husband prevented her from connecting with, which provides all kinds of opportunities.

I hope this helps! If you are interested in asking any questions about my requests/preferences, you can message my twin sister [livejournal.com profile] spatz, who would be thrilled to collude with you in secret. :)

Have fun with your Yuletide, and happy holidays!

Cheers,
Lindsey
