A scene from the bus this morning:

ME: *finally starting Naomi Novik's Blood of Tyrants and very excited about amnesiac Laurence*
OLD GUY: *gets on bus, sits next to me*
ME: *reads page two*
OLD GUY: *suddenly* Is that a book about Jesus Christ?
ME: Uh...no. It's a book about dragons. And the Napoleonic Wars.
OLD GUY: What?
ME: Dragons.
OLD GUY: Oh.
*awkward silence*

Just...what.

And also why you should never talk or text during a movie in a theater. (There's a special hell for people like that!)

Full write-up of the story here, but basically: the Drafthouse ALWAYS shows a PSA before every movie telling you to shut the fuck up and not use your cell phone during the movie. And this woman ignored it, was warned twice, and then they kicked her out (as they do). She left an angry voicemail; they proceeded to turn it into yet another no-talking PSA:

Heeee.

It is 85 degrees outside (that's about 30*C, foreigners on my flist) and nasty humid, so of course our air conditioning has been broken for the last two nights. Now I am sleep-deficient and sticky and cranky.

I'm fucking off to get a haircut and then live at the freezing cold pool in my neighborhood.

Back from visiting my grandma over the weekend. For not doing much of anything, those visits are always inexplicably exhausting. I don't know if it's the humidity, the sleeping on the couch, or the awkward born-again-Christian turns the conversations sometimes take, but regardless, I am very tired. I'm glad to be going over to [livejournal.com profile] junebug_waltz's humble abode tonight for the comforting embrace of Doctor Who-watching and general geekery.

So, that whole thing about it being illegal to pick bluebonnets in Texas because it's the state flower, which I have believed is true my whole life?

Apparently, not so true.

It's an urban legend! It's still kinda tacky and bad karma to pick them (because unless these annual flowers are left alone, they won't re-seed for the next year). But it's not illegal.

I feel so disillusioned, and kind of silly.

Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] thespatz (and to myself, I suppose)!

We are having a smallish dinner party tonight; I plan to eat a LOT and play around at making cocktails, and there might be a wild game of Apples to Apples.

It is utterly gorgeous outside, minus that bizarre half-hour where it hailed and poured cats and dogs, after which the rainclouds went galloping off and left a perfect blue sky.

:D

It's SNOWING! In Texas. This is very surreal. :D

Oof. Flight was delayed due to weather in Newark, and then I was the dumbest person ever and got off the Amtrak while still in NJ, so I ended up taking the PATH into the WTC and having to walk/ride the subway/lug my bags much longer/farther than I would've liked.

I also had to leave my twin, my family, my Texas Crew friends, and the miracles of Tex-Mex and legit margaritas behind, but I'm trying not to think about that.

On the bright side, I got down a few pages of thesis notes, so that's good. And I have pralines. YUM.

have some pictures! NYC-as-Atlantis and pugs in suitcases )

Completely exhausted, but I'm flying back to Austin tomorrow, so exciting! My friends up here are as diligent as my friends down there about putting me on a plane drunk/hungover, and I'm not as crazy with the last-minute packing as I usually am. So, good deal. <3

This post is mainly to say that the existence of this picture makes my brain hurt at the same time it makes me very happy. :)
