inmyriadbits: oranges on blue (missionimpossibledive)
So, posting fic notices to LJ a couple of weeks late is apparently how I roll now....

Fandom: Mission: Impossible (inclusive of all four movies and the TV show, but mostly the MI4 team)
Rating: PG
Pairing/Characters: Ethan Hunt/William Brandt, Jane, Benji, cameos from all over the canon
Word Count: 28394 (whaaaat)
Summary:
After their meeting on the pier in Seattle, the team goes their separate ways. But Ghost Protocol left the IMF in turmoil, so Will, Ethan, Jane, and Benji team up to take on the Syndicate, a mysterious and widespread criminal organization. Will has to adjust to being a field agent again, and learn how to work with his team when the world isn’t on the line -- all while dealing with attack cheetahs, unexpected amnesia, train robbery, master thieves, and more.

Falling in love was not part of his scenario.

Notes: Written for [livejournal.com profile] smallfandombang Round 3. A ton of thanks go to [livejournal.com profile] ignipes for her wonderful beta, and to [livejournal.com profile] doitninetimes for all the cheerleading! I would also like to thank [livejournal.com profile] spatz for being fun to co-write spy shenanigans with, but especially for not strangling me in my sleep over the hyphens argument. ♥

And thanks to Tarlanx for the awesome big bang art! She made us not one but two different pieces, available as cover art and wallpapers; I especially love the photo manip, in which she managed to make use of a set photo from MI:4 that I adore. You can find them all here.

So...I never got around to actually crossposting about the Amplificathon 2013 podfics I did. *is super belated* I figured I should probably get on that before Amplificathon 2014 rolled around.

I joined up a week before the deadline, and I'd never recorded anything before, so I started with my own stories and a couple of Katie's. When I inevitably fumble my way through the early part of a learning curve, I prefer it be my own stuff (or my clone's) that bears the brunt of it. Anyway:

Oops. I just realized I forgot to cross-post this here! I was basically falling asleep as I posted AO3, though, if that's any excuse.

Fandom: Hawkeye (comics), Marvel Cinematic Universe-ish
Rating: G
Pairing/Characters: Kate Bishop, Clint Barton, Phil Coulson; Clint/Coulson-ish, but largely ampersand-fic
Word Count: 5519
Summary: In which this whole dungeon thing really isn’t working for Kate Bishop, there are far too many nicknames from the Victorian era, socks are vitally important, and Clint insists he is Han Solo in this situation.

Notes: This was written using only canon through Hawkeye #7, so apologies if anything clashes horribly for you. I am also ignoring all of Secret Avengers. So it’s basically Hawkeye, plus some MCU, plus whatever random Marvel trivia I’ve absorbed by osmosis over the years. *jazzhands* A million thanks to my beta extraordinaire, [livejournal.com profile] spatz, who is my very own Katie-Kate. ♥

Written for [livejournal.com profile] bendingwind for New Year’s Resolution 2013, because I defaulted last Yuletide (OH THE SHAME).

( "Okay," Kate Bishop muttered to herself. "This looks bad." )

co-written with [livejournal.com profile] spatz

Fandom: Person of Interest
Rating: G
Pairing/Characters: John Reese/Harold Finch
Word Count: 1007
Notes: So, this came about because Katie was bored at work one day and asked me to tell her a story, and I was bored at home and texted her a short version of this. I gave her permission to expand it as a birthday present for [livejournal.com profile] neery (with minor contributions by yours truly).

I can neither confirm nor deny that we might have, possibly, deliberately adjusted the word count so that it ended in 007, because spies, and also because the stopped countdown number from the bomb vest disarming scene. That would just be silly.

( He picks up the phone: one picture message, from 'Reese'. )
inmyriadbits: (dangerofgeekage)
Fandoms: Primeval, CSI: Miami
Rating: G
Pairing/Characters: Det. Horatio Caine, Cpt. Becker, Connor Temple, Abby Maitland
Warnings: dinosaurs prehistoric creatures, Horatio Caine, bad puns
Word Count: 188
Summary: After the New Dawn fiasco, the ARC team does a lot of liasing.

Notes: Tiny ficlet written as a present for [livejournal.com profile] spatz, because we broke 10k on our Mission: Impossible 4 fic. She asked for it. (Our conversations are weird, okay; you really don't want to know how we got from spy shenanigans to dinosaurs in Miami.) And then I found out that CSI: Miami was just cancelled by CBS, so it doubles as a celebration of that! This...is probably the only way I will ever end up writing about Horatio Caine, who I hate with the fire of a thousand over-produced Miami suns.

inmyriadbits: oranges on blue (lifebunny+gun)
Fandom: Life

inmyriadbits: oranges on blue (smoke)
1. I wrote two stories! There was the Sherlock Holmes (/Due South/Numb3rs/House/Psych/Castle) fic The Sincerest Form of Flattery back in September, and then I wrote Life fic for Yuletide: Taking The Stairs, which has received many lovely comments that stroke my ego. I also wrote a smattering of Twitterfic in February for a whole bunch of fandoms.

Speaking of Yuletide, I also beta'd my sister's Life fic, Precession, which is excellent (and hilariously the only other Life fic to come out of Yuletide other than mine). I also received two gifts: In Uniform (B13) by faviconVal Mora, and A Madcap Proposal (Lost In Austen) by favicon7iris, both of which are wonderful and make me super happy.

other things )

...I guess that's it. This year felt like it went by pretty fast, or at least uneventfully. 2011 seems to have been The Year of Mediocrity for me. I'm not particularly happy, but life isn't awful. I'm just sort of drifting, is all.

I think I might take a break from the internet for a while, just FYI. We'll see.
inmyriadbits: oranges on blue (holmes221B)
Fandoms: Sherlock Holmes, Due South, Numb3rs, House, Psych, Castle
Rating: G
Pairing/Characters: Sherlock Holmes, Dr. John Watson, Benton Fraser, Ray Kowalski, Charlie Eppes, Larry Fleinhardt, Dr. Gregory House, Dr. James Wilson, Shawn Spencer, Burton Guster, Kate Beckett, Richard Castle
Warnings: discussion of pediatric cancer; rampant abuse of Sherlock Holmes quotations
Summary: All detectives are Sherlock Holmes, and they all have their Watsons. Six iterations of Holmes moments in six fandoms.

Notes: In addition to the cited quotes at the beginning of each section, each title is also from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's original stories -- the first obviously from A Study In Scarlet, the second from The Valley of Fear, the third from "The Retired Colourman," the fourth from "The Adventure of the Illustrious Client," the fifth from The Hound of the Baskervilles, and the last coming full circle back to A Study In Scarlet. The second section was inspired by the POV character's own quote. The article mentioned in the last section is a real Victorian-era article, but is likely both anachronistic and not to be found in any publication Watson would actually read. No particular spoilers, but the Due South section is set sometime during season 3/4, the House section sometime during season 6, and the rest are scattered throughout their respective canons. Title from the Charles Caleb Colton quote. Enormous thanks to [livejournal.com profile] thespatz for putting up with me while I dragged her through my millions of rounds of revisions, and for giving me good advice along the way.

I am rather bored -- all the excitement of learning that anesthesia makes me nauseated + enormously sleepy was yesterday, it's below freezing outside, and my twin is occupied. So, let's play a game!

I had a lot of fun with this last time, so how about the Twitter Comment Fic Challenge, Part II! It's like those "tell a story in 10 words" memes, only with 140 characters instead. Y'all comment giving me a fandom, and a prompt/pairing/character/mood word/whatever if you like; then I write you a mini-fic of 140 characters.

Anything is fair game! I've mostly focused on ridiculous fandoms like B13 and Primeval recently, but I'm also game for the million and a half other things I've seen or read over the years, so feel free to throw out something random. I like a challenge. :D

Okay...go!

Meme yoinked from this lovely Middleman fic:

The iPod Challenge: Put your MP3 player on shuffle and write a flashfic (I refuse to call these drabbles; I am a term purist!) about each of the first ten songs to come up. The catch? You only have the duration of the song to write it in.

I haven't really looked at these since I wrote them at 5am, so hopefully they're not terrible. I also cheated on the rules for a few of them (you will likely be able to tell which, because they are significantly longer).

Also, I have no idea where the serial killer one came from. I kept trying to figure out who the character was, but I don't think she's anybody I've met before. Whoops, accidental original!fic?

Katie was bored at her job the other night, so I ended up making her fic-text with me.

I blame the following on my current obsession with Sherlock Holmes, and the fact that I was rewatching The Middleman episodes while texting. :D?

Fandom: The Pretender
Rating: G
Pairing/Characters: Miss Parker, Jarod; Parker/Jarod
Summary: Act II, scene ii, line 43. Miss Parker stands under glass in the middle of a desert, and she is surrounded by roses.
Notes: No spoilers, really; I wrote this while playing with ideas for a longer post-series piece, but as that has stalled out for the moment and this stands rather nicely on its own, I thought I'd post it. Also posted here at AO3.

In the spirit of compulsive organization, I'm collecting all the twitterfics I've been writing at the prompt post and putting them here. Feel free to make more requests! I'm still having fun with it. :)

23 twitterfics: White Collar, NCIS, Mag7, The Good Wife, NCIS:LA, Supernatural, Singin' In The Rain, Criminal Minds, Bones, Due South, Fringe, Middleman )

I'll continue to update as I write 'em.
inmyriadbits: oranges on blue (sitralwaysdignity)
So, I feel like writing. (...not my paper for school, though, of course. *scoffs* Don't be silly!)

Let's play a game! We'll call it "the Twitter Comment Fic Challenge" -- it's sort of like those "tell a story in 10 words" memes, only with 140 characters instead. You (that would be the plural you, as in, my flist) comment giving me a fandom, and a prompt/pairing/character/mood word/whatever if you like; then I write you a mini-fic of 140 characters. If you want to play along, you can request a fandom in return.

Anything is fair game! I'm up to date on House, NCIS, NCIS:LA, The Good Wife, Criminal Minds, Bones, SPN, Fringe, 30 Rock, White Collar, Psych, Chuck, Leverage, Burn Notice, Eureka, Southland, and Doctor Who -- just to name what's currently running on TV. I'm a few eps behind on Merlin and Mad Men, five episodes into Castle, and studying Man From U.N.C.L.E. for my thesis. And that's not counting the million and a half other things I've seen or read over the years, so feel free to throw out something random. I like a challenge. :D

Okay...go!
inmyriadbits: oranges on blue (maskedsecrets)
Fandom: Mad Men/The Man From U.N.C.L.E.
Rating: G
Pairing/Characters: Joan Holloway, Napoleon Solo (peripheral Illya Kuryakin, Peggy Olson)
Summary: "We dance round in a ring and suppose, / but the Secret sits in the middle and knows." -Robert Frost
Notes: 172 words. Spoilers for neither show, title from Benjamin Franklin. Thanks go to [livejournal.com profile] thespatz.

Three May Keep A Secret  )
inmyriadbits: oranges on blue (peacockfeathers)
Fandom: The Fall
Rating: G
Pairing/Characters: Alexandria, Roy
Summary: Many years after the hospital, she finds Roy again.
Notes: 330 words. This is not a particularly fannish movie, despite a very hot Lee Pace being very talented in it while still managing to work in some pirating on the side. It is visually stunning, and I loved it when I saw it last summer. I wrote most of this then, just found it buried on my computer, and now I'm dusting it off and posting before I talk myself out of it. Warnings for being kind of weird.

Oranges )
inmyriadbits: oranges on blue (happypinkpartysombrero)
Soooo...I've had a thought.

It all started when [livejournal.com profile] marinarusalka asked for ficlet prompts, and I suggested "Tony Stark saves a kitten," and lo, she wrote it and it was adorable.

It started me thinking about other characters, and their hypothetical interactions with kittens. For example: Castiel with a kitten! Don't lie, you want to see that. Or Rodney McKay, canonical cat-owner, with a kitten! An alien!kitten, even! We already got canonical Doctor Who with a kitten (an alien kitten), but I could stand to see that again. :D

And then I thought, surely the vast community of cat lovers on LJ would also enjoy these thoughts. So I propose this to you, LJ: a kitten-a-thon! It's very simple, you see. Just use the phrase "[insert name] with a kitten!" and then knock out a drabble.

For example, "Spock with a kitten!" (Why should Data have all the fun?) Or along the same lines, "Kirk with a kitten!", or "Chekhov is a with a kitten!" Also good candidates: Dean Winchester, John Sheppard, Alec Hardison, Gibbs, Charlie Crews, etc and so on.

And while we all know cute guys with kittens are adorable, don't forget the ladies! I for one would like to see Veronica Mars with a kitten. Or Uhura (why should Spock have all the fun?). Or Sarah Connor. Or Abby Sciuto. Or CJ Craig (she was so great with the turkeys). And I'm sure if Dana Whitaker found a kitten on the way to work, she would take it to the office with her. Morgana with a kitten (more historically accurate than tomatoes)! Parker with a kitten! (Oh, wait, that's been done, but that's just proof that it's adorable.)

And you dog-lovers, feel free to substitute the kitten for a pug! Or a cocker spaniel, or a Saint Bernard, whatever. I am easy. :)

Have some inspirational photos! Or at the very least, yet another kitten picspam. )

So come on, LJ! Join me in the fluffiest of all drabble challenges! It's Monday, I say we all deserve kittens.

If you really don't feel like writing ABOUT KITTENS, at least tell me about your favorite "[blank] with a kitten" scenarios. *makes big, kitten-like eyes*
inmyriadbits: oranges on blue (startrekXIboldlygo)
Sooooo...I wrote a Star Trek reboot ficlet for [livejournal.com profile] yahtzee63's DRABBLE ON THE EDGE OF FOREVER! drabble challenge, which is awesome and producing lots of good stuff along with the first round, JOURNEY TO DRABBLE. Y'all should check it out, and write drabbles! Mine only took about ten minutes, you can tell.

Anyway, it is totally fluffy, makes shameless scientific method jokes, and resides here:

Prompt #11: Uhura, right as rain
inmyriadbits: oranges on blue (Default)
So, I often do this thing where I wander away from LJ and come back with a month's worth of replies to catch up on and a terrible fear of my unread flist. Just so you know, when I reply on a comment from forever ago. :) Y'all haven't missed much in my life: was briefly hormonal and period-crazy; went on a date (okay, I guess that's kind of something); celebrated Mother's Day with champagne, bonbons, and old Bones episodes; attended my photography class (I'll be posting some of my prints soon); caught up on the last 2+ seasons of Doctor Who, finished Veronica Mars S3 finally, and am almost done with Torchwood S2. My life, so exciting.

In other news, I had something terribly flattering happen. [livejournal.com profile] winkingstar made a podfic of my Yuletide story for L.M. Montgomery's The Blue Castle, Once In A Blue Moon (also here). I don't listen to podfic for the much same reason I don't listen to audiobooks -- I prefer to read text; I get distracted by thoughts about what I'm reading and suddenly I've missed a whole minute, and it's much easier when I can skim text than when I have to rewind -- but I'm all a-flail about this one. My favorite thing about fandom is the sheer creative energy behind it, the way people are inspired to create and share things. The fact that it was my fic someone else was inspired to make something from is just, well, incredibly cool. *beams* It's a lovely podfic to boot; her voice is well suited to the tone and style, and opening section especially works really well read aloud. Check it out!
