inmyriadbits: oranges on blue (b13leito)
I am rather bored -- all the excitement of learning that anesthesia makes me nauseated + enormously sleepy was yesterday, it's below freezing outside, and my twin is occupied. So, let's play a game!

I had a lot of fun with this last time, so how about the Twitter Comment Fic Challenge, Part II! It's like those "tell a story in 10 words" memes, only with 140 characters instead. Y'all comment giving me a fandom, and a prompt/pairing/character/mood word/whatever if you like; then I write you a mini-fic of 140 characters.

Anything is fair game! I've mostly focused on ridiculous fandoms like B13 and Primeval recently, but I'm also game for the million and a half other things I've seen or read over the years, so feel free to throw out something random. I like a challenge. :D

Okay...go!

So, I feel like writing. (...not my paper for school, though, of course. *scoffs* Don't be silly!)

Let's play a game! We'll call it "the Twitter Comment Fic Challenge" -- it's sort of like those "tell a story in 10 words" memes, only with 140 characters instead. You (that would be the plural you, as in, my flist) comment giving me a fandom, and a prompt/pairing/character/mood word/whatever if you like; then I write you a mini-fic of 140 characters. If you want to play along, you can request a fandom in return.

Anything is fair game! I'm up to date on House, NCIS, NCIS:LA, The Good Wife, Criminal Minds, Bones, SPN, Fringe, 30 Rock, White Collar, Psych, Chuck, Leverage, Burn Notice, Eureka, Southland, and Doctor Who -- just to name what's currently running on TV. I'm a few eps behind on Merlin and Mad Men, five episodes into Castle, and studying Man From U.N.C.L.E. for my thesis. And that's not counting the million and a half other things I've seen or read over the years, so feel free to throw out something random. I like a challenge. :D

Okay...go!

Okay, FINE. I've got a Twitter now. smokeofthought

Let me know yours and I will add you.

The name is from the last stanza of one of my favorite poems:

The Immortal Part
by A.E. Housman

When I meet the morning beam,
Or lay me down at night to dream,
I hear my bones within me say,
"Another night, another day."

"When shall this slough of sense be cast,
This dust of thoughts be laid at last,
The man of flesh and soul be slain
And the man of bone remain?"

"This tongue that talks, these lungs that shout,
These thews that hustle us about,
This brain that fills the skull with schemes,
And its humming hive of dreams,—"

"These to-day are proud in power
And lord it in their little hour:
The immortal bones obey control
Of dying flesh and dying soul."

"'Tis long till eve and morn are gone:
Slow the endless night comes on,
And late to fulness grows the birth
That shall last as long as earth."

"Wanderers eastward, wanderers west,
Know you why you cannot rest?
'Tis that every mother's son
Travails with a skeleton."

"Lie down in the bed of dust;
Bear the fruit that bear you must;
Bring the eternal seed to light,
And morn is all the same as night."

"Rest you so from trouble sore,
Fear the heat o' the sun no more,
Nor the snowing winter wild,
Now you labour not with child."

"Empty vessel, garment cast,
We that wore you long shall last.
—Another night, another day."
So my bones within me say.

Therefore they shall do my will
To-day while I am master still,
And flesh and soul, now both are strong,
Shall hale the sullen slaves along,

Before this fire of sense decay,
This smoke of thought blow clean away,
And leave with ancient night alone
The stedfast and enduring bone.
