(this is actually from last night, but LJ was being stupid and wouldn't post it, so y'all are getting it now)
I just had to sit through the most boring discussion section ever. We saw Ernst Lubitsch's To Be Or Not To Be, which was quite good, but for some reason our TA wanted to devolve into plot summary. I was about to bang my head into the wall and/or run out of the room screaming after we spent 10 minutes going over whether the movie rationally explained a certain character's actions. It's a comedy! It doesn't have to make sense! Making sure that particular plot point is logical doesn't even matter, because it's completely insignificant! Moreover, it was rationally explained, it just seems that our TA wasn't paying attention! ARGH!
It doesn't help that I was thisclose to skipping the class anyway. It's cold and wet and gross outside. I actually bribed myself into going, by means which don't need exploring at this juncture. Well, okay. Suffice it to say I had to pull out the big guns: candy and alcohol--both of which I got free at my job last night, btw, which was fabulous. It was a launch party for a new vodka by this Dutch company. They actually flew in professional mixologists from Holland for the event. CRAZY. There were a) a lot fewer people than expected, probably because of the weather, b) four of us partyhelpers hired, and c) very little to do anyway, so we didn't have to work hard at all. Then I drank a fancy professionally-mixed cocktail that tasted like raspberry lemonade, tried some of the absinthe Michel had, was loaded up with free Dutch chocolates and sample bottles of vodka, got paid lots of money, and left. Good times. :)
