I bet he had a crush on Dan or Casey
Mar. 28th, 2007 09:48 pmDUDE. My bio teacher is a Sports Night fan. How awesome is that?
Okay, a little explanation: I was a giant dumbass and forgot about the bio exam this Friday (oops), so I've been trying to see if I can reschedule it. I'm way too good at this for my own good, but I was able to present things in such as way as to convince my class dean and my professor that speaking at a panel on community-building at a fan convention has enough "leadership" and "professional skill-building" qualities that he should make an exception and let me take the exam another day. I of course stressed both the personal importance that this opportunity has to me (which is true; I'm very excited that I can contribute to building this community, and fandom as a whole has been a huge and valuable part of my life since I was 13) and the previously mentioned leadership stuff (also true; I am doing all these things, and I'm slightly terrified of public speaking, so this is good training) in my email to him. I got a follow-up asking what the time and name of my panel was ("For Those of You Still Watching at Home, Please Give Us a Call and Tell Us Why," and I fibbed a bit on the time by saying that "the convention starts at 9am on Friday morning" and obscuring the fact that the panel I'm doing is actually on Saturday so I didn't have to miss Friday's stuff, but shhh...), and then mentioned that it was a quote from this show called Sports Night by Aaron Sorkin, who also did The West Wing. I got this response back:
"I'm still not entirely convinced that this is a situation that warrants missing a pre-scheduled midterm (this is speaking as a huge fan of "sports night", first season laugh track notwithstanding - not so much a fan of "the west wing"). That being said, I am offering a make up...," blah blah etc.
How cool is that? Not only is he a fan, but he's a big enough fan that he has Opinions on the S1 laugh track travesty.
*is ashamed of self and thrilled at success* I'm such a lying bitch. But I get to go to MJ, so I'm okay with that. *slinks off cackling and swirling Cape of Moral Ambiguity*
By the way, I'm in a much better mood today. Getting this exam rescheduled helped a lot with the overwhelmed feeling, plus we watched Singin' In The Rain--my ultimate happy-making movie; seriously, my face hurts from smiling after the titular dance sequence--in my film class. Now I just have to do a load of laundry, pack, and prepare for a very long day tomorrow.
