inmyriadbits: oranges on blue (bonesbadgeofbadassery)
Mmm, our house smells good. My dad and I made spaghetti sauce (from scratch, family recipe; it's delicious) and my experiment with making coconut rice was moderately successful, so I think we'll be having that for dessert with peaches (since we have no mangos).

I'm playing with the idea of going swing dancing tonight, but since a) I will be eating a ton of spaghetti and coconut rice at dinner, b) I'm about to start my period, and c) there's a new Burn Notice on, that doesn't look too likely. Speaking of, Katie and I caught up on that show yesterday (old-school style, with a VCR and tapes) and it's AWESOME. Seriously, it's so much fun. I liked Jeffrey Donovan when he was on the US remake of Touching Evil, even though I didn't like the show that much, and I love him in this. The show itself is smart, fun, funny, and well-acted. I'm a big fan of spy stuff in general (Alias was my second fannish love, for instance), and this is an interesting take on the spy world. He nails the presence I look for in spy characters: smart in a twisty way, competent, confident, capable of violent badassery but aware that it's not always the best option, able to adapt to any situation (mannerisms, tactics, whatever), wickedly humorous, and hard without losing humanity. (Did I mention competent? Because that's also something I find really hot. :D) Those qualities make a spy both fun to watch and fun to think about, which is what I like. :) Yes, I'm very well pleased with this character. Supporting thrilled-ness comes from discovering that Gabrielle Anwar and Bruce motherfucking Campbell are also on, and both are brilliant in their own fashion. USA has a really nice track record with quirky characters, so I'm quite looking forward to this series.

Last thought: does anyone have opinions on good places to go backpacking in New Mexico? I'm pretty seriously thinking about going on a short backpacking trip by myself in the mountains, either later this summer or during the fall, so I'd welcome input.
