This is mostly for my own purposes; it's likely an incomplete list, since I'm sure I watched more TV than listed, and I didn't check my sister's Netflix history for all of the movies she rented that I watched, but still. I probably saw more first-run movies in theaters this year than I ever have before, thanks to my job providing free admission.

How did you like Tinker, Tailor? People seem to either love it or hate it. I'm on the fence--I read the book when I was maybe 14, during my phase of wanting to be a spy, but I was definitely too young to appreciate the intricacies. (I was hoping for more bombs and car chases.)

I liked it! The performances alone are worth the price of admission, and it dealt with all the intricacies with subtlety and restraint, which I enjoyed. It assumes you're smart enough to keep up -- both an asset and a drawback, depending on who you ask. It makes you work for every little thing, and it is neither conventionally entertaining nor conventionally satisfying, so I can see why people disliked it, and a few people tend to fall asleep in every showing at my movie theater. I personally tend to like my spy movies with a few more explosions and car chases and gadgets, as well, but the spycraft here is wonderful in a completely different way.

If you're looking for a movie rec, though, for my money I'd go see Shame, if it's showing near you. On a really shallow level, Michael Fassbender is incredibly attractive and very naked in many scenes. But on every other level, he's compellingly watchable in pretty much every way possible, the movie is beautifully made and well-written, and I've been thinking about it all week. *two thumbs up*
