calling in reinforcements

NNNNNNgggh.
I really hate being sick. I think I even feel worse than yesterday, plus I keep having to start my days calling in to work and telling my poor understaffed boss that I really can't work food service, sorry. I hate being sick as an adult. I especially hate being sick when I have nothing to distract me from being sick; if I have a good book to read or TV show to marathon, I don't mind so much. But I just finished my book, caught up on Fringe, watched all of Hawaii Five-0, and spent the day re-reading a bunch of
elspethdixon and
seanchai's Marvel Comics fic. And now I'm sick AND bored. (AND still have to finish my Yuletide fic. *looks guilty*)
So...recs? Long, satisfying, comfort-foody type recs, please? I've been meandering between H50, Steve/Tony, and Generation Kill recently, but by no means feel constrained to reccing those fandoms.
:D?

Date: 2010-12-17 05:05 am (UTC)I actually totally read that the other day, it was quite good! I have another long GK fic open in a tab right now, but I haven't been able to get very far with it; I think the boys' issues are too heavy for my cold-filled brain to handle at the moment. Alas. :(

Date: 2010-12-17 09:00 am (UTC)If you haven't read Get Loved, Make More, Try to Stay Alive Yet (http://dira.ficlaundering.com/dwt/getloved.html), now might be an awesome time. It's emotionally up and down but I came out going OMG LOVE EVERYTHING, so....
Did you read Out of Bounds (http://www.icarus.slashcity.net/stories/outofbounds.html), that SGA figure skating AU? Or Black Helicopters At Dawn (http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dn6qd8v_48kv8z6k57) and sequels? A bit on the plotty side, but awesome and heartwarming in that ineffable McKay/Sheppard cranky way.
Lessee, miscellaneous fandoms:
-Merlin fic where Arthur gets swapped into an alternate universe where magic is allowed everything is topsy-turvy, Seven Magpies (http://archiveofourown.org/works/55307).
-SPN comic book vigilantes AU, For Truth, Justice, and Led Zeppelin (http://haruslex.livejournal.com/38885.html)
-SPN Hunger Games AU (not spoilery, D/C): Bird of Paradise (http://trinityofone.livejournal.com/201469.html). Not exactly comfort fic, but long and good.
-The Tomato Plant Doesn't Grow Mangoes (http://community.livejournal.com/spn_summergen/88173.html), SPN preseries two-parter casefile gen with adorable kid Winchesters and awesome outsiderPOV OC.
Twice Shy (http://sarkasticfics.livejournal.com/2652.html): Star Trek close-to-canon AU where Bones is a werewolf and mates for life with Jim, which you know is normally not at ALL my thing but this was adorable and well-written and OH THE PINING.
Also not comfort-y but awesome was Fortunate Son (http://archiveofourown.org/works/132382), which ignipes already recced.
Always Starts the Same, with a Boy and a Girl (http://archiveofourown.org/works/124667): White Collar AU where Elizabeth met and teamed up with Neal before meeting Peter.
Toph helps invent Braille and the printing press awesomeness: Meanings tied up in dots and lines (http://archiveofourown.org/works/39243)
More Inception! If you liked the bakery AU, gyzym also has what she calls "the domesticverse" (http://gyzym.livejournal.com/45008.html), which is canon based; multi-part oneshots, mostly, with a couple longer pieces. Or the West Wing AU, The Wrath of The Whatever From High Atop The Thing (http://amazingly-me.livejournal.com/136763.html?style=mine) - adorable!
Aaaand I'm going to bed as I just discovered that apparently Yahoo is shutting down Delicious. Just as I finish up bookmarking everything ever. FML RAGE.
