Oct. 29th, 2007 02:38 amWhen I was little, I would get scared about the weirdest things. I most remember the time I couldn't fall asleep because I was afraid of natural disasters--not just one in particular, but all of them. My dad sat me down and explained why I didn't have to be scared of each one: Austin is far enough south that we don't get the bad tornadoes, and he showed me how we would hide in the bathtub in the center of the house if one came; we live on a big hill that would save us from flooding; meteors are rare beyond rare, etc. I thought earthquakes would make giant cracks in the ground to swallow us up, like you see in bad old movies, so he found a picture of what kinds of cracks actually happened.
I don't know what made me think of that.
