So, finally watched the most recent POI.
So, Katie and I have realized that if:
1. John = Batman
and
2. Harold = Bruce Wayne / Oracle
then
3. Zoe Morgan = Catwoman
4. Carter = Jim Gordon
and
5. Root = The Joker
Right?
...which is especially hilarious because the showrunner is Chris Nolan's brother. Probably they have the same kind ofincepting idea-infecting conversations that my twin and I do. And I think I need to start describing this show to people as "so basically, they're superheroes, with the aid of some Orwellian sci-fi stuff" because my latest attempts at "it's like a crime procedural, only not, and more awesome!" didn't really work for me.
(I kinda want to say Pierce is Lex Luthor, but he's just not that awesome. Maybe he's Oliver Queen. Wait! Elias is Lex Luthor, of course. And our new friend Sam Shaw is probably Cassandra Cain.)
Also, this show has now basically done the following fic-tropes as actual episodes:
1. they acquire a baby (1.17 "Baby Blue")
2.sex pollen truth serum non-consensual mind-altering substance (1.18 "Identity Crisis")
3. undercover married (2.06 "The High Road")
4. undercover in prison (ish. with a twist. 2.11-2.12)
5. and now this week's outsider-POV (2.16)
I'm sure I'm missing one in there. Discuss!
Holy shit, are they ramping up to a potentially great finale. I can just feel it. I love love LOVE the way they're using Root, and Amy Acker's performance is simultaneously impressive, really disturbing, and horribly likeable in a she's-so-awesomely-evil kind of way. (It's hilarious to me that the scene with the iron gave this ep a Bechdel test pass. Hee...) I ADORE Sarah Shahi in a way where I can't be unbiased about her performance, but I think they've set up some interesting possibilities with her character -- who is definitely coming back, after they just spent an entire episode setting her up -- and on a personal note, I am enormously grateful that they didn't treat her like a female version of Reese. (In fact, I think they deliberately used the fact that a lot of people would see the parallels and then make assumptions about how she's act based on Reese's patterns of behavior, in order to help set up the twist in the meeting scene more effectively.) And Jesus fuck, such a badass. I love her. :)
