So...I haven't really been around much. This was due to a combination of school spreading the midterm stress out just enough that it wasn't two weeks of hell high-stress like finals, but medium-high stress over four or five weeks, which is almost worse. At least with finals, you can get it over with and recover; with this, it just keeps dragging out the pain and exhaustion for weeks. Combined with my mom/sisters visiting, WinchesterCon, sickness, intermittent bouts of depression/frustration/avoidance (like that one spectacular Saturday when I watched 15 hours straight of The Office (US version), which is literally the entire run of the series), and issues with the ol' menstrual cycle that I'm just not going to go into right now, and you have one tired Lindsey.

BUT...it looks like I'm in the clear. Mostly. I have a test Friday in bio, and a major project in art due next Tuesday that is going to kick my ass and eat all my free time. Other than that, things are looking up--Thanksgiving is around the corner, I have new BPAL, I got lots and lots of sleep this weekend (despite a highly irregular schedule thanks to a frustrating attempt to go to sleep early at 8pm on Friday that ended in waking up at 1am, not getting back to sleep until 6am, and then waking up at 3pm when Cassandra called me), and I'm in a good mood. I'm going to focus on the fun things of the past few weeks, like going to The Times They Are A Changin' with Cassandra for free; watching Nosferatu at the cathedral of St. John the Divine with live organ accompaniment, dry ice smoke, and a costumed procession of demonic creatures, followed by really good Mexican food; my bellydancing class; enchiladas at Matt and Jancy's apartment for Matt's birthday, etc.

Right now, I can't sleep. I fell asleep around 8pm and woke up around 1, so I've just decided to stay up. Bizarrely, my roommate is not here, and hasn't been since I fell asleep. I'm guessing she's hanging out with her guy friend again, with the accompanying drama they've got going on, which is far too complicated and not-your-business to go into here. (ETA: She showed up at 7am, and had, in fact, been with J.D.). The plan is to try and go through the last month or so of everyone on my flist, probably sans commenting, but at least I'll know what's going on in people's lives. It's been fun so far. I love that LJ can give me everything from comics scans ([livejournal.com profile] poisonivory) to really good Due South fic ([livejournal.com profile] joandarck) to play reviews that somehow spin off into me doing minor research on Greek color theory ([livejournal.com profile] copperbadge). Which reminds me--[livejournal.com profile] researchgrrrl! I hope you're reading this so I can ask you what you know about Greek color systems--how they perceived color, how they depicted it in literature and art, etc. Because I am a nerd, and you understand me in that way. *snuggles* I found a few articles here and here that I've sorta skimmed. I also have to go to the Museum of Natural History to do a bio lab, which will be sort of fun. I had to promise my dad that I'd take a picture of the whale skeleton that he claims hangs from the ceiling somewhere in there. This is a running debate, because I think he's thinking of another museum. We'll see. I also am probably going to mosey on out to Brooklyn with Jess and Emily (er, [livejournal.com profile] poisonivory and [livejournal.com profile] orangeaddict) to hang out with [livejournal.com profile] ladyjaida at the Tea Lounge). Somewhere in there, I will do other homework.

My long weekend (we get Monday and Tuesday off for a fall break/voting holiday) has been very good to me so far. I hung out with my friend Leigh for the first time in a while on Friday, and we caught up on SPN together and gossipped about her boyfriend and drama in her dorm suite. I had the weird sleeping thing that night, but I passed the time productively by cleaning my room and doing some online stuff. Saturday afternoon I hung out with Cassandra at Pinnacle and in Avery Library, which is my favorite at Columbia. I didn't really do much in the way of homework, but I helped Cassandra get work done and tried not to laugh when she sent me emails about the guy sitting across the table from us. We went to her apartment after that, and I helped her deal with some of her unpacking/moving stuff. That probably sounds like an odd thing to have fun doing, but I find cleaning to be very soothing. It's in the same realm as organizing my desk, or putting away clean laundry, or crossing things off lists. Anyway, we also finished off the third season of Slings & Arrows, which was glorious and made me cry like a baby, and I hooked Cassandra on Heroes (waffles, wahoo!). We ate kettle corn. She helped me talk out my art project issues. I left eventually. :) When I got back to Barnard, I went to talk to a girl who lives around the corner from me, intending to only borrow her S2 West Wing disc 1 because I had the urge to watch "In The Shadow of Two Gunmen" again, but ended up talking fandom with her for a few hours. She's very nice, and she hasn't had much opportunity to geek out with anyone not online, so I think she really enjoyed it. We have a surprising amount of overlap on our fandoms, including the Miles Vorkosigan books, which makes me very happy. Anyway, I did a large amount of laundry to end the night, which was very satisfying and gave me lovely clean sheets sleep. Unfortunately, I completely forgot that Greg Grunberg was going to be signing things in New York Monday morning, so that was a sad missed opportunity. I was finally able to pick up my BPAL swaps package that's been languishing since last Tuesday, and then I went to deposit some checks. I decided to walk down to Riverside Park and then up to 107th, which was a great choice. The sun was going down and the light was orange, which looked beautiful on the autumn leaves and the pale branches of the sycamores and the Hudson River. I could feel myself slowing down and loosening up. There was a man making the most enormous bubbles I've ever seen for a bunch of kids; the bubbles were bigger than they were, no exaggeration. They seemed very surreal, like these undulating, rainbow-sheened, amorphous aliens amidst the dead leaves and the fall atmosphere. I'm not sure how to describe the effect. After the bank, I went to the Hungarian Pastry Shop and drank hot apple cider. After a sort of convoluted process, I ended up eating Indian food with Jess and her mom, who was very nice, then came back to my room and fell asleep far too early, and here I am. I think I'm going to go find something to eat now and head over to AMNH to do my lab.
