--You know what I realized today? I have personally met all but about ten people on my flist. That seems like an unusually high number, don't you think?
--Some of you will understand why I find this video We The Kings made so hilarious.
--Comment on this post and say YO BABY ! I WANT TO DO THAT INTEREST MEME or something like that. I will choose seven interests from your profile and you will explain what they mean and why you are interested in them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so that others can play along.
marinarusalka gave me these interests:
belly dancing: I took classes briefly in high school with a friend, and then again in college with another friend, and I adore it. It's incredibly useful for any other kind of dancing, too; knowing how to move your hips in one direction while the rest of your body is going the other? Awesome. :)
dignity always dignity: Ah, Singin' In The Rain, let me count the ways I love you. This phrase comes from Don's hilariously revisionist voice-over during the montage of his early "acting" career. He claims his motto was "Dignity. Always dignity," while he was really doing undignified things left and right. <3 So, this one is a bit tongue-in-cheek, clearly. I am not a dignified person. Katie also listed this as one of her interests with me, following some discussion that I can no longer remember with the third person who lists this as an interest.
epistolary romance: Oh, man. I don't even know where to start with this one. Epistolary romance is the BEST, okay? Give me a relationship that develops (for the entirety or for even just a small period) through letters, and I'm gone. I was thrilled to have my own brief epistolary romance a few years ago, despite it not turning out so brilliantly.
laugh lines: Laugh lines are sexy. I love crows' feet around the eyes and people whose faces easily crease into smiles. I like faces with character, that show the passing of time and lives; smile lines are merely the happiest elements of that kind of wear and tear.
masks: I'm not sure I can explain this one. Masks, in a metaphorical and physical way, fascinate me. I like looking at the way people play roles or tell stories and how those things interact with reality, and masks just get swept up in all that. They can also be beautiful works of art; I have two feathered Mardi Gras masks my mom bought in New Orleans up on my wall (which is otherwise bare, because I've been putting off putting up all my posters and pictures for one reason or another since I came home last summer).
swing dancing: More dancing! I've been doing swing pretty regularly since the summer after sophomore year (almost five years now), and I love it. I've talked about this in depth here before. (*cheats*)
vintage: When I buy things, I like them to have character or a story to them. Vintage is perfect for this. I like looking through all the funky old things in vintage stores and finding that one unusual dress or pair of shoes that speaks to me, or makes me smile, or reminds me of something fun. This is how I end up with a closet full of black-and-white polka dot pumps, 1940s dresses, and gold belts rather than trendy tops from the mall. Austin is an amazing place for vintage. If I were rich, no one would be able to stop me. :D

Date: 2008-05-17 12:03 am (UTC)Cocteau Twins: Awesome, mostly non-lyrical music. They have a kind of surreal quality to their work, which is nearly all glossolalia, which I think is brilliant stuff. If you've heard Massive Attack's "Teardrop", Liz Fraser, CT's lead singer, did lead vocals on that too. (@ Wikipedia)
Cumbria: County in the north of England. If you see it and don't understand the appeal, no explanation is possible... if you do, no explanation is necessary. It's incredibly beautiful, and is one of the few places in my country where I cannot help but feel tied to the land at a deeply spiritual level.
Hypermobility: The bane of my life! Well, one of them. My joints move and extend far more flexibly than they should, which damages the cartilage and ligaments, etc., around them and causes me a more or less constant level of pain. I can dislocate (and usually relocate) my left shoulder spontaneously, and I can turn my hand downwards while my inner elbow is facing up, if you can imagine that. Most people can't do that. I can also walk on my ankles.
Lacuna Coil: Italian symphonic metal band with a very hot lead singer, Cristina Scabbia. I love their lyrics and their music; I got to see them live October before last and had so much fun that I didn't leave even after dislocating my shoulder violently about three times! *clings to her icon*
Synaesthesia: Difficult to explain to someone who's never experienced it, but I can try-- My particular form of it is grapheme-personification, which is different from the more usual tasting sounds or hearing colours: I sense words, letters and numbers as personalities in themselves. An upper-case letter can sometimes be a very different 'person' from a lower-case version of the same letter.
Thunderstorms: The pressure when they build up sometimes gives me migraines, but it is so beautiful when the storm is about to break... I love watching the sky during a storm, all roiling clouds and darkness and light...
Within Temptation: Another one of my beloved symphonic metal bands. These guys are Dutch. *grins* Again, I've seen them live, rocked out and LOVED them then, and their lead singer, Sharon den Adel, is ridiculously hot. She sings about an octave higher than Amy Lee from Evanescence, and she has a really good range. Their lyrics really capture my imagination.

Date: 2008-04-30 02:51 pm (UTC)And Joss Whedon quoted it to describe himself playing Numfar in that AtS episode, which made it even funnier.

Date: 2008-05-16 11:53 pm (UTC)Did he really? I am so not surprised, actually (the film dept head at Wesleyan is a big fan of that movie, according to Katie -- who's taking a class on musicals from her at the moment -- and my personal theory is that she infected him with his love of musicals), but that's hilarious.
