--You know what I realized today? I have personally met all but about ten people on my flist. That seems like an unusually high number, don't you think?
--Some of you will understand why I find this video We The Kings made so hilarious.
--Comment on this post and say YO BABY ! I WANT TO DO THAT INTEREST MEME or something like that. I will choose seven interests from your profile and you will explain what they mean and why you are interested in them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so that others can play along.
marinarusalka gave me these interests:
belly dancing: I took classes briefly in high school with a friend, and then again in college with another friend, and I adore it. It's incredibly useful for any other kind of dancing, too; knowing how to move your hips in one direction while the rest of your body is going the other? Awesome. :)
dignity always dignity: Ah, Singin' In The Rain, let me count the ways I love you. This phrase comes from Don's hilariously revisionist voice-over during the montage of his early "acting" career. He claims his motto was "Dignity. Always dignity," while he was really doing undignified things left and right. <3 So, this one is a bit tongue-in-cheek, clearly. I am not a dignified person. Katie also listed this as one of her interests with me, following some discussion that I can no longer remember with the third person who lists this as an interest.
epistolary romance: Oh, man. I don't even know where to start with this one. Epistolary romance is the BEST, okay? Give me a relationship that develops (for the entirety or for even just a small period) through letters, and I'm gone. I was thrilled to have my own brief epistolary romance a few years ago, despite it not turning out so brilliantly.
laugh lines: Laugh lines are sexy. I love crows' feet around the eyes and people whose faces easily crease into smiles. I like faces with character, that show the passing of time and lives; smile lines are merely the happiest elements of that kind of wear and tear.
masks: I'm not sure I can explain this one. Masks, in a metaphorical and physical way, fascinate me. I like looking at the way people play roles or tell stories and how those things interact with reality, and masks just get swept up in all that. They can also be beautiful works of art; I have two feathered Mardi Gras masks my mom bought in New Orleans up on my wall (which is otherwise bare, because I've been putting off putting up all my posters and pictures for one reason or another since I came home last summer).
swing dancing: More dancing! I've been doing swing pretty regularly since the summer after sophomore year (almost five years now), and I love it. I've talked about this in depth here before. (*cheats*)
vintage: When I buy things, I like them to have character or a story to them. Vintage is perfect for this. I like looking through all the funky old things in vintage stores and finding that one unusual dress or pair of shoes that speaks to me, or makes me smile, or reminds me of something fun. This is how I end up with a closet full of black-and-white polka dot pumps, 1940s dresses, and gold belts rather than trendy tops from the mall. Austin is an amazing place for vintage. If I were rich, no one would be able to stop me. :D
