Brokeback To The Future
Another one of those fake movie trailers. Hysterical.

I think this meme is a great idea, and I hope it spreads. Which means, I'm counting on the few of you on my flist to do this too.

Directions: Obsessed much? We all have triggers, things that make us spin joyfully off into fannish thoughts. Please list at least five (5) everyday items or activities that transport you to your own personal fan world. Include the name of the fandom, and if applicable, character.

1. This meme - Actually, any meme. They make me think of the Doctor Who episode "The End of the World." There's a group called the "The Adherence of the Repeated Meme." (Doctor Who)

2. Messenger bag - I have a black messenger bag that I use pretty much every day and love to death, but sometimes I covet the Veronica Mars' bag. It's just so cool. (Veronica Mars, Veronica Mars)

3. My PE class - I'm taking a class on the Alexander Technique. It's pretty interesting, but more to the point, a lot of it deals with releasing unconscious and unnecessary tension and lengthening the spine. Today, a girl asked if we were actually trying to straighten the spine, since it's naturally curved. This made me think of the credit sequence for House, MD--which never fails to give me goosebumps; it's just so pretty--since it features an image of a curvy portion of the spine. (House, MD)

4. "Thank you" - This is all Benton Fraser's fault. Almost every time I say "Thank you" nowadays, I have the urge to instead say "Thank you kindly"--to the cafeteria people, someone holding open a door, whatever. Except my version sometimes comes out with a drawl. (Due South, Benton Fraser)

5. Automatons - My first year seminar, "The Uncanny" (description here, third down on the page) has been dealing a lot with the question of humanity, essentially, by looking at automatons and creations in literature/movies. We read E.T.A. Hoffmann's "The Sandman" and Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and watched Bladerunner. I keep going "The Cylons!" to myself in class and wishing my classmates were a bit geekier so we could squee officially and get credit for it. I did manage to pimp BSG to my professor, though, and manage to slide in a pitch for Firefly as well. She seemed interested and said she would check both out, so yay! :) (Battlestar Galactica)

There are so many more things I do this with than that short list. Especially when I'm talking with Katie. Our conversations are just peppered with things like "Can I go behind the bushes and throw up now?" and "I think you have a problem with your brain being missing," and "To read makes our speaking English good" and sometimes Sorkining, especially post-Sports Night/West Wing.
