NCIS 7.09 "Child's Play"
1. McGee IS looking really good, I have to say. I mean, he's been looking incrementally better as the season progresses, but he's reached new heights with this episode. Weirdly enough, he seems taller; there were a few scenes where he's standing next to Gibbs, and I realized for the first time that he's significantly taller than Mark Harmon. It was very strange, but I am so not complaining.
2. I have to admit, one of my favorite things about this episode was all the Ducky screen time. Yay Ducky! I'm developing a bit of a crush on David McCallum; it doesn't seem to matter whether he's playing a hot young spy or a quirky, erudite coroner. I just love the guy. <3
3. LOL ZIVA ON TONY'S SHOULDERS
4. Did anyone else watch this and have sudden, vivid flashbacks to Ender's Game? Because I totally did...
5. I thought the child actress was really quite good. She apparently is only 13, but the kid's got chops. Mark my words, she's one to keep an eye on.
6. So, you know the random guy "Ray" who was playing checkers with Angela when Gibbs walks in? Apparently that was Ray Mabus, who is the current, real-life Secretary of the Navy. How awesome is that!
7. I do wish someone would cast Francis Capra as something other than a gang member. It's really starting to bother me. Casting directors, you're on notice.
8. I love that Gibbs smiles so much more now than he used to. It makes me very happy. (And not just because Mark Harmon is foxy.) <3
House 6.08 "Ignorance Is Bliss"
I loved the twisty logic that led to Chase punching House. One of my favorite things about Chase is that he fools me into thinking he's just meandering along, easy as anything, and then BAM, he does something unexpected. Like murdering African dictators, or punching House in the face and then apologizing. :D
And then it got extra awesome when Talb appropriated Chase's punch to get laid! I mean, reconcile with his wife. That was very clever, and also unexpected. Well played, writers.
House 6.09 "Wilson"
HOW AWESOME WAS THAT EPISODE
"OMG SO AWESOME" IS THE CORRECT ANSWER HERE
God. There is so much good going on here that I'm going to have to breathe deep and take it slow. From the top:
1. The opening. Maybe this is a dorky film major thing, but I LOVE that I was duped into thinking the opening guitar chords were non-diegetic sound (as they usually are), and then the reveal that it's diegetic! And House is being obnoxious! And kinda flirty! (What else are we supposed to get from him singing "If I could touch your body, I know not everybody has got a body like you"? George Michael, people.) And he's jealous! And the sound bridge of door slam/rifle fire was great too! *is a geek* [...I bet none of you (except
thespatz, you don't count) know what non-/diegetic sound is. *facepalm* Just pretend that made sense, okay?]
2. House: "He's a self-important jerk." Wilson: "It seems to be what I'm attracted to." WHAT. WHAT. HOW ELSE ARE WE SUPPOSED TO READ THIS. ESPECIALLY IN CONTEXT OF THE REST OF THE EPISODE. I mean, really.
2. JOSHUA MALINA GUEST SPOT I LOVE HIM
3. Seriously, how have they gone five whole seasons without doing a Wilson-centric episode? It seems like it should've happened before now, you know? I vote they do it again. :D
4. HEE. Wilson's "stance" while firing his gun? I'll just be over here, laughing forever now, thank you. :D
5. The little glimpses of House's case were cracking my shit up, too. I'm pretty sure they're meant to, but when the guy is delirious and saying "We'll play in God's mariachi band!", the ducklings rush by with a tossed-off "It wasn't the tennis!", House mentions removing a screw from someone's lung, and they steal the OR right from under Wilson's nose, you bet your ass I'm amused. Also, didn't they actually do the microwave popcorn fumes storyline at some point? Or was that another show? I know I've seen it somewhere before. Maybe Grey's Anatomy? Hmm.
6. It's really fun being on Wilson's side of House's insanity -- like not seeing Housestalk Wilson bribe the redhead in records butt into Wilson's cases onscreen, just having it sprung on us along with Wilson. Or having him mysteriously appear in a patient's bathroom. Or whatever.
7. The nurses speak! I thought that was a nice touch; Wilson is friendly to the nurses, who in turn help him dodge House for whole minutes at a stretch, while House delights in making their lives miserable.
8. It was great watching Wilson be a great doctor in his own right, in a way entirely different than House is. I mean, he diagnoses a guy because he doesn't brag about his grandchildren! That is cool. We mostly get to see Wilson's smarts and observational skills applied to House and his problems, but those same qualities make him a really good doctor.
He's also has a mean hand with guilt-trips and emotional manipulation; he gets what he wants from his patients in different ways than House's brow-beating methods, but he gets what he wants all the same.
9. "This is the 21st century, Wilson! I realize that the logical course of any adult relationship could one day lead to fornication." O RLY, House? :D
10. Okay, the scene where House walks into the room dripping? Both a) hilarious, because he apparently did something inappropriate off-camera with the showers in the ER, his team, the patient, and some cardiac monitors, and b) really very sweet in an utterly House way, because he hurried over, soaking wet, to tell Wilson about a potential liver transplant. And also because he knows that Wilson will rush off and apply his magical emotional manipulation skills to the sister. And then House follows Wilson out into a New Jersey winter while still soaking wet. And then finds a religious loophole so Wilson can get the liver, and THEN, when it's too late, delivers a biting parting line to the sister because Wilson's too nice to say it.
That's love, people.
11. Holy shit, Tucker is manipulative. House was right about him being a self-centered jerk. You can't really blame a guy on his death bed, but the choices he makes after? Yeah. Asshole. Wilson's a million times better a person and an infinitely better friend than that jerk. House is a better friend than Tucker, easily.
12. House's protective reaction to the notion of Wilson donating part of his liver is also incredibly sweet. In his own backwards, fucked-up way. Wilson was totally justified in getting mad at him, though.
13. "If you die, I'm alone." Oh, House. And then he shows up after all. And then sits by Wilson's bedside all the time and watches him sleep and makes him laugh. *draws hearts*
14. When Tucker said "The person you want when you're dying isn't the same as the person you want when you're living," all I could think was that House is who Wilson wants around in both situations. I'm just saying.
I was so proud of Wilson's "Actually, it's James." <3!
15. I'm awfully fond of Hugh Laurie in those reading glasses. Not only is he foxy in them, but that mother-hen look House uses on Wilson (while hovering at his bedside while he sleeps) is wonderful.
16. Okay. So. The buying-a-house thing. Aside from the swankiness of the loft (*thumbs up*), the important things: not only are they a) moving in together, which is b) paralleled by and actually precedes Cuddy's moving in with Lucas, an action framed as a Serious Relationship Move, but c) Wilson's moving out of Amber's apartment. They don't really address that, but seriously? That's a big deal. Also, d) Wilson's doing it out of revenge/anger on House's behalf, since House can't (or won't) do anything about it himself, and e) using the "we" pronoun. Aww.
Just, *flails*. They are SO MARRIED. I know I've said this before, but really. SO MARRIED. I mean it this time! And, well, it feels different this go around. House isn't exactly new-and-improved, but he IS more grounded post-hospital, and has slightly mellowed. He's not lashing out in pain all the time, and he wants to try to be happy. It makes their little domestic scenes feel different, more solid or something. IDK. It's 4am. *hands* I like it, though
Gosh, that was a lot about that House ep. Probably because it was MADE OF AWESOME, but still. I think I got a bit OTP-y there... :D

watchingsavouring Jeeves and Wooster and oh so many little ♥. I want to marry Bertie. :)Hm... diegetic. Ok, without googling is it a physical part of the scene/world, whereas non-diegetic is an overlaid on top soundtrack?
