1. So, I somehow managed to skin my knuckle and abrade the skin under my eye during the course of a pillow fight at a bar last night. \o/? It really reminded me how much I enjoy physical competition. I was a soccer player for twelve formative years, and throwing yourself bodily at other people in a competitive way is a weird joy, and I miss it. I really liked that about jiu-jitsu -- I still want to pick that up again, since my stupid period issues are settling down into "not bleeding for three months straight anymore", so once I get back to a slightly more capable level of aerobic fitness so that I don't literally make myself sick again, I think I shall.
2. I went for an eye exam on Wednesday, and officially won the "nearsighted with astigmatism" contest. My prize was...a pair of glasses! Which should be ready sometime next week. I was joking with
serialkarma about having a glasses-themed party, but now I'm thinking that might actually be fun. Everyone would have to wear their glasses! Or, if not blessed with deficient eyesight, any pair of glasses, particularly crazy ones.
3. I have a bike! (Actually, I have three bikes. The other two are my parents and rather old and need to be sold off.) It is my sister's old mountain bike, which received a tune-up as birthday present, since it was also old and jacked up. I've ridden it twice in the past three days, and I forgot how much I love it. Stationary bikes are boring unless you have something to watch or read, and they make me feel like I'm on a hamster wheel; I've been unable to keep up in yoga or jiu-jitsu; jogging is like mind-numbing torture that also makes my knees and ankles ache; swimming is hard during the winter (and I suck at lap swimming). But biking is fun -- you go fast, you're outside, there's always something new to look at, you have to think about how to navigate around people and cars and such, and it's low-impact on my knees. I don't know, hopefully I can keep it up.
