It's not really a "fascinating" anecdote, but it is an anecdote. My parents met when they were in the Peace Corps in India and Nepal in the late '60s, and my dad spent some time trekking up the Kali Gandaki in Nepal. I guess he liked it enough to name a daughter after it ten years later. *g*
I think it was something to do with my dad being sick and my mom taking care of him, but to be honest I don't really know. They've been divorced since I was seven, so nobody really spends much time talking about their romance. ;)
My dad liked the show Bosom Buddies and apparently there was a line where they went "Sonny Sonny Sonny." (sing song like) and my dad decided that he wanted to do that with me.

My mom's choice was Alexandra, which wouldn't have been too bad, but I like my name.

Speaking of TV shows and names, I was almost named Meredith, but there was a sitcom on at the time with main characters named Kate and Meredith. My parents didn't want to get all cutesy with the twin thing, so that was vetoed. (Although, we did end up with a cool twin name thing totally by accident, since our initials are the same letters rearranged. Which we'll probably use in our matching tattoos, if that ever happens.)

The middle name is where the story comes in. For the past five generations, I guess, everyone has had the middle name of Katherine, which is a lot cooler than my first name. But there you have it.
Five generations, wow! That's all the way back to the mid-1800's, isn't it? That's pretty impressive. Why Katherine (which is The Twin's name, btw), do you know?
I'm sort of named after my great-grandpa Izzy, since Isaac and Jessica both come from the same Hebrew sound (sort of - Shakespeare made up the name Jessica because he thought it sounded Jewish), but really Jessica has always been my mom's favorite name, partially because of Jesse James. When she was a kid, she got a kitten and named it Jessica, but my grandfather didn't want it, so he gave it to a fish store to keep the mice away, and she was like "Dammit, Dad, I'll name my kid that instead!" and then she did. The end!
My middle name was Jane but I didn't like it and I was going through pen names and the like in mid-high school with writing (that will never see the light of day, mainly because apparently I just can't finish anything) and I really liked the name Jade and the stone at the time (was my first exposure to Mesoamerican stuff plus Chinese and I had dim memories of the Cities of Gold cartoon as a kid) and it sort of evened out into Jayden because I liked the name and this was prior to every five year old boy being called it but then I added the extra y for symmetry and changed my name back in 2000 officially. :)
As to Emma, Mum was reading the book at the end of her pregnancy and liked it so I got that. I did actually turn out a wee bit like her, so that worked out well. I love the name Emma but the problem with my life? Everyone has a nasty habit of calling me Em, even when I correct and correct them, so in 1999 when I started using Jaydeyn as my online name, I started introducing myself as Jaydeyn too and it sort of spiraled from there.
Interestingly, my Welsh name if my father had his way (he got the little bro to name - Gareth Glyndwr - pronounced glyn-dell but sort of swallow the 'e') would have been Myfanwy. Given that this is the name of the pterodactyl on Torchwood? I'm seeing it a lot more now!
... huh. Where did I get healer or river from? Emma apparently means 'universal' or 'whole'. Whereas Myfanwy means... what? WHAT? My Woman? WHAT? Dude.
My older sister's name is Emma. :) And hey, if you officially changed your name, then you should check the "I chose my own name" ticky box! I was hoping I might get someone who could pick that one. *makes eyes*

Not really a story, per se, but my irish grandmother was named clare and my mother's middle name is clare. i'm not sure if it goes back farther than that. if i have a daughter, she will have clare somewhere in her name!
