1. I went on a massive Fringe-meta streak a few days ago (mostly here), enabled nicely by [livejournal.com profile] ignipes, who kept saying interesting things to spark me off. She then wrote a great post about Olivia Dunham which I recommend to anyone who was/is reluctant to watch Fringe based on their first impressions of her or things they heard other people saying back when it started (or interested in Olivia, or in female characterization on TV, or whatever). I was a little uncertain about Olivia when I started watching, too – so you can trust me when I say that I am REALLY HAPPY I got over that with some more watching. *nudges everyone in the direction of the pilot*

2. Isn't it disconcerting when you run across something and don't remember anything about it or where it came from? It's a bit similar to the feeling I get when going through old journal entries and thinking "Gosh, that's rather clever, but I don't remember saying it at all..." The case in point today are some old bookmarks linking to pictures of two thousand-year-old papyrus fragments with bits of The Odyssey written on (from Books 9 and 11, Book 11, and Book 17). I thought it might be from one of my classics courses, but the date says they're from the winter after sophomore year when I was withdrawn from school. My best guess now is that maybe a classics geek from my flist linked to them... They ARE pretty cool. They remind me of a school field trip to see the Dead Sea Scrolls, when I spent so long wandering through the exhibit that they had to send someone back in to find me because the buses were leaving. :D

3. Speaking of nostalgia, I would like to link (again) to this poll, which takes the cake as My Favorite Poll Ever, Fullstop. It makes me laugh and laugh and laugh. Go on, click on it; you won't regret it. :D

4. Oh, hey, did you guys notice that Lie To Me started again on Monday? SO EXCITED! Tim Roth was all terrible posture and intensity, Jason Dohring (aka Logan Echolls on Veronica Mars) guest-starred as a psychopath, and Brendan Hines and Monica Raymund spent the entire episode looking foxy in spite of Loker's terrible shirt (which he made fun of himself, oh, Loker). ♥

YAAAAY

You guys you guys! Southland was EVEN BETTER than I thought it would be! I know I've seen it before, but there was a LOT of new footage, to the point of really surprising me. And TNT aired it without commercials (and then showed an extended preview of that new Mel Gibson movie, yawn, and then scenes from new Leverage yay), which I love. And I had forgotten how much I love the characters -- especially John Cooper, Lydia Adams, and Ben Sherman (okay, and Chickie, and Janila), but really all of them. And I know that it only gets better and the characters only get more interesting. I am having a renaissance! YAY.

Okay, I'm gonna shut up now and just do this -> :D

:D :D :D

Hi guys! I'm here to tell you that you should all watch Southland tonight! *uses magical powers to make it so, Number One*

IDK if you missed my ridiculous amounts of love for it when I watched it over the summer, but I love it A LOT -- which is a quite a feat, considering that it was a mid-season replacement with only 7 episodes at that point.

The saddest thing to happen during fall premiere season was when NBC (in their infinite retarded version of wisdom that led to The Jay Leno Debacle) canceled the show without even airing the six episodes ordered and produced for the second season. MORONS.

But then, miracle of miracles! You know how when a show is wrongfully canceled, everyone secretly hopes another network will pick it up? And you also know how this never ever happens, except when you're Buffy? Well, TNT (in their actual wisdom, which leads to shows like Leverage and The Closer) picked up the show! I was so happy, I can't even tell you. I posted in ginormous letters of happiness, if that tells you anything. Also, I am more excited about this show coming back than I am about any of the other shows coming off hiatus this month (which incudes Leverage, Burn Notice, White Collar, Chuck, Psych, and many other shows I adore)

Anyway, it's re-premiering on TNT tonight and will run through all the aired AND unaired episodes. I've also been told they're including all the material that couldn't be aired on a broadcast network (which I hope includes all the cursing :D), so even if you saw it before, it's well worth watching again.

And then TNT might pick it up for reals if it does well! So please, do me and you a favor and watch, okay? It makes me really happy.

(Actualfax pimp post to follow, with pictorial evidence of hotness and character details and all kinds of stuff about how even the producers are awesome, but that will take time and I wanted to get this out now. :D But you can be assured that I have a lot of supporting evidence! I was a film major, okay? It's What I Do.)

*gleeks*

More Five Things about The Man From U.N.C.L.E.! I've decided to stop LJ-cutting them (the better to pimp you with, my dear...) until someone complains. :)

1.07 "The Giuoco Piano Affair"

1. Napoleon: "They know me; if I were to show up in the area, they'd try and kill me. Would that help anything?" Waverly: "Only Mr. Kuryakin. Who's next in line for promotion."

2. Illya's idea of a gift to a pretty woman? Half a burned life preserver from an enemy's exploded yacht. (And the man just can't help kibitzing on someone else's chess game. Or reading someone else's typing over their shoulder. I love him.)

3. Gun in a lighter! Spy gadgets are the best. :D

4. Did Napoleon really just a) deftly employ a complex chess metaphor (*swoon*) and b) call Illya his "white knight"?

5. You don't see helicopters that can land on water much anymore. Why is that?
